Since the soccer ball is being kicked high in the air and down field, there will be an upward and right-ward applied force. Gravity is always acting upon objects. Since the ball is at its highest point, it is no longer going more upward but hasn't started going downwards yet. That would mean that the upward applied force and gravity have equal and opposite forces. There is also still resistance through friction, sound, etc. Since the soccer ball is still moving down the field though, the right-ward applied force is greater than the friction.

There is also still resistance through friction, sound, etc. Since the soccer ball is still moving down the field though, the right-ward applied force is greater than the friction.
